January 2022 · 10 minute read

Season 3 adds Crypto to the arena and the Legends are moving to a new planet, making this the biggest change up in Apex Legends’ short history.

The latest update will be the most significant that Respawn have pushed out since the game’s release: with an entire map, new legend, weapons and a host of in-game cosmetics due to be added.

EAWorld’s Edge will bring a hefty update.[ad name=”article2″]

In terms of exactly what to expect, each season-related update has thus far introduced the bulk of content in one large update, subsequently followed by smaller patches to fix any bugs.

When is the Season 3 update?

Respawn have confirmed that the patch will go live at 12 PM PT / 3 PM EST / 8 PM BST on October 1.

Respawn Entertainment Project Lead, Drew McCoy, sent out a tweet stipulating that: “no one at Respawn “hits the button”, before breaking down how the patch hits each respective platform.

Since it's always asked when we patch – no one at Respawn "hits the button"

PC – Patches usually arrive on schedule
PS4 – Patch availability seems to depend on region
X1 – Patch starts hitting at scheduled time, but there's a 4hr window when your console will pick it up

New map: World’s Edge

Introducing an entirely new environment for Legends to tackle, on the planet of Psamathe.

A contrast between the rising embers and chemical ice, alongside a new terrain and new movement mechanics introduced by geysers and a high-speed cargo train, gives a new dynamic feel for players.

*[*Designer Notes: We think the number of hop-up types in the game is about as high as we want to go right now when we consider loot dilution and the likelihood of finding a desired hop-up. Going forward, we intend to rotate hop-ups each season — some may be removed from the loot pool to make room for new or returning ones. Below are the changes we’ll be making to hop-ups for Season 3.]

GOLD GEAR CHANGES

NEW KITTED GOLD WEAPONS

We’ve swapped out the previous set of Gold Weapons with some fresh new ones for Season 3. Keep an eye out for these fully kitted beasts that all include tier 3 versions of all compatible attachments, hop-up, and the following optics:
