Atlanta FaZe Academy ensured that the hosts of the February 22-23 Call of Duty league event completed the double, as they picked up a win in the Challengers event. Here’s how the event finished up. 

While the hopes of the competitive Call of Duty world hung on the chance to see a potential mouth-watering matchup between Atlanta FaZe and Chicago Huntsmen, the Huntsmen didn’t live up to their end of the bargain. 

Atlanta FaZe dominated the second Call of Duty league bracket-based event, securing the victory during their first-ever home showing. Though, while they were swatting opponents away on the main stage, their academy team grinded through the challengers event.

With Team Singularity, who have secured two challenger event wins from two, not taking part in the Atlanta event, it gave way for another team to pick up a trophy. 48 squads descended on the ATL but it was the home team that matched their CDL lineup’s success over the weekend.

The academy roster entered as the fifth seed and quickly made their way through the open bracket – reaching the winner’s bracket fifth round before falling into the loser’s bracket after defeat to first seed UYU. 

They staved off elimination by defeating Rebel Esports in a 3-2 series, giving them passage to the Championship stage. From there, the Atlanta FaZe Academy didn’t hold back. They swept Recon 5 3-0 and defeated Team Insite 3-1 before pulling off a bracket rest on Team UYU – defeating them 3-1 and 3-0.

The victory landed the academy squad almost half of $25,000 prize pool, as they got to take home the top prize of 10,000. With their second-placed finish, UYU grabbed 7,000, while Team Insite scored $4,000 for finishing third.

Challenger teams will be back in action as the Call of Duty League heads to Los Angeles, California – where the lineup of teams will, more than likely, be dominated by North Americans. It might be up to Team Singularity to answer the call and go for three for three or for FaZe Academy to match their consecutive wins.
