Everything we know about GOALS football game: Trailer, platforms

January 2022 · 4 minute read

Created by the co-founder of German esports organization, SK Gaming, GOALS looks to be the next big football title to rival FIFA and eFootball, so here’s the release date, platforms, and more.

While the football game market has been largely dominated by FIFA and eFootball, formerly Pro Evolution Soccer, there’s a new competitor in town hoping to hit the back of the net with a winner.

GOALS, the latest attempt to bring the beautiful game to our screens, is the brainchild of SK Gaming co-founder Andreas Thorstensson, who hopes to integrate NFTs and free-to-play systems to outdo his competitors. It joins EFL football as an attempt to overthrow the continued dominance of the world’s two biggest football games.

So, if you want to take to the pitch GOALS style, here’s everything you need to know about the new team on the block, from release date to platforms.

GOALS hopes to rival eFootball and FIFA.

Is there a GOALS release date yet?

GOALS remains in its infancy and was only announced on July 22, 2021. Therefore, there’s no release date as of yet, but as soon as we know anything we’ll be sure to update this section with more information.

GOALS game: Platforms

While we have confirmation that crossplay will be implemented for GOALS, we’re currently in the dark about what platforms the game will launch on.

Given that it’s touted as a AAA title, there’s a good chance it’ll be released on big formats like the PS5 and Xbox Series X, also, as an esports scene is also in the works, it’s safe to say we’ll likely see the title appear on PC too.

GOALS: Trailer and teaser

While we haven’t had any video trailers as of yet, there are several teasers fluttering around on the game’s dedicated Twitter page.

The most intriguing hint we’ve got so far is the idea of ‘free to play,’ seen on the little ticket that features in the account’s first tweet. This means it would serve as a direct competitor to eFootball in that regard. Given the rocky start to Konami’s rebranded take on simulated football, there could be a chance for GOALS to make an impression.

On December 14, the first announcement trailer dropped on YouTube. While didn’t offer any gameplay hints, it did double down on the game’s mission statement of being a more user-friendly take on a football game.

GOALS: Free to play & crossplay

One of the title’s most highly anticipated features is this idea of “free to play.” With both FIFA and eFootball consistently coming under fire for their reliance on micro-transactions, the idea of free to play is something most virtual footballers will be overjoyed at.

The second is the notion of crossplay, something else that neither eFootball or FIFA have at the moment. Additionally, this also implies that the game will be available across multiple platforms.

4/ GOALS is a AAA football game. Free to play, cross-play, multiplayer first and esports ready. It will use a play to earn model where time spent and skill in the game will be rewarded through digital assets (NFTs) so more people hopefully can make a living playing the game.

GOALS will feature a market similar to that found in FIFA Ultimate Team, with the difference being that all items will totally belong to the player. On the game’s official website it reads, “Every asset will be fully owned by the player and can be traded freely on an open marketplace. The choice will be easy when comparing GOALS to other football games: experience better gameplay and get rewarded for your time. Play-AND-earn.”

eFootball and FIFA have dominated the football game space for years with little competition.

GOALS: Licensing

One of the biggest questions for football fans is if GOALS will feature any official licensing. Both eFootball and FIFA have agreements to use the branding likeness of real-world players and teams in their games to varying degrees.

With GOALS being a newcomer to the scene, as well as a free-to-play title, having the proper teams, players, and logos would be a huge win.

At this time, there is no word on whether or not the developers have any agreements to include superstars from the real sport. From the marketing so far, however, there is a distinct lack of familiar faces.

GOALS: Esports

It isn’t just in the game’s free-to-play model that is set to challenge FIFA and eFootball, Goals is also looking to take over the competitive scene. In the announcement trailer, the game was described as “esports ready,” but unfortunately didn’t go into specifics.

That’s everything we know about GOALS so far! As more information is released regarding this FIFA and eFootball competitor, we’ll be sure to add it right here!
