Twitch streamer apologizes after heavy backlash over pushing dog into fridge

Twitch streamer GsxrClyde has apologized after receiving heavy backlash for pushing his dog into a mini-fridge in a viral clip that has been making the rounds on social media.

On January 3, GsxrClyde, like a lot of other streamers for the new year, put out a “best of” compilation on YouTube. After it came out though, Twitter user @WavelIY posted a clip from the video that shows Clyde pushing his dog Thor into a fridge.

It wasn’t long before the clip circulated on social media. Many people started going after the streamer, who defended himself onstream amidst the outrage.

In the clip, Clyde is examining a camera harness for Thor, who’s joining along and sniffing things out. Suddenly, the streamer looks down and uses his forearm to push the dog back, which sends him reeling into the mini-fridge behind him with enough force to knock items over on top.

Twitter users quickly made comparisons to the infamous Alinity cat-throwing incident in quote tweets and replies to @WavelIY , and wondered why the streamer decided to include it in his “best of 2021” video at all.

GsxrClyde apologizes for “unacceptable behavior”

Initially, Clyde claimed that no one cared when the incident happened earlier in the year. “That clip has been on Twitch [for a while],” he said. “When it happened, no one said a damn word.” However, he has since apologized for his actions.

“Yesterday, when the situation was brought to me and was posted on Twitter, I handled it unprofessionally and immaturely. I mean, let’s just be honest here. It was uncalled for. It wasn’t right. You shouldn’t push your dog around.”

He also accepted full responsibility for his actions. “You can’t make six years of good content and have one bad thing go unexcused, because it’s not. That one bad thing could screw you over, and you should be one hundred percent accountable for it.”

This is my response to my unacceptable behavior regarding the clip with Thor, and my apology to anyone affected by the clip.https://t.co/YnsG085eHE

Clyde also revealed that he’s received lots of hate and death threats from people over his actions.

“It’s been a tough night,” he said. “I’ve been reading everything. It’s not easy to read. But you live and you learn. I’m human. I make mistakes.”

In the end, though, he went back to his main point and apologized to everyone for not only his actions but also his reaction afterward.
